Understanding the regulation of the creative media sector

Understanding the regulation of the creative media sector

Why does the creative media sector need to be regulated?
It needs to be regulated  to make sure there are no materials being broadcast what will course harm or make a fence to the public.

British Board of Film Classification (BBFC)

British board of film classification say what rate a film should be for example they see a film before anyone elas so they can pick the best rate to put the film as. For example all the film what are in the cinama now have been wathed and reviewd by the British Board of film classifcation.

As seen below you can see what rate a film can be.

U – Universal
All ages admitted, there is nothing unsuitable for children over 4.

PG – Parental Guidance
All ages admitted, but certain scenes may be unsuitable for children under 8.

12A
Cinema only. Introduced in 2002. Films under this category are considered to be unsuitable for very young people. Those aged under 12 years are only admitted if accompanied by an adult, aged at least 18 years, at all times during the motion picture. However, it is generally not recommended that children under 12 years should watch the film. Films under this category can contain mature themes, discrimination, soft drugs, commonly used milder swear words, and moderate violence/sex references.

12
Home media only since 2002. 12A-rated films are usually given a 12 certificate for the VHS/DVD version unless extra material has been added that requires a higher rating. Nobody younger than 12 can rent or buy a 12-rated VHS, DVD, Blu-ray Disc, UMD or game. Films in this category may include infrequent drugs, infrequent use of strong language, brief nudity, discreet sexual activity, and moderate violence.

15
Only those over 15 years are admitted. Nobody younger than 15 can rent or buy a 15-rated VHS, DVD, Blu-ray Disc, UMD or game, or watch a film in the cinema with this rating. Films under this category can contain adult themes, hard drugs, strong language, moderate-strong violence/sex references, and mild non-detailed sex activity.

18
Only adults are admitted. Nobody younger than 18 can rent or buy an 18-rated VHS, DVD, Blu-ray Disc, UMD or game, or watch a film in the cinema with this rating. Films under this category do not have limitation on the bad language that is used. Hard drugs are generally allowed, and strong violence/sex references along with strong sexual activity is also allowed. Scenes of strong real sex may be permitted if justified by the context.

R18 – Restricted 18
Can only be shown at licensed cinemas or sold at licensed retailers or sex shops, and only to adults, those aged 18 or over. Films under this category have material the BBFC does not allow for its "18" rating, thus the violence and sex activity will be stronger in R18-rated VHSs, DVDs and films than those rated "18," however, there is still a range of material that is often cut from the R18 rating. More cuts are demanded in this category than any other category

Office of Communications (OFCOM)

Ofcom is the communications regulator in the UK.
They regulate the TV, radio and video on demand sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate.

They make sure that people in the UK get the best from their communications services and are protected from scams and sharp practices, while ensuring that competition can thrive

Independent Press Standards Organisation formally

The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) was established on Monday 8 September 2014. following the wind up of the Press Complaints Commission (PCC), which had been the main industry regulator of the press in the United Kingdom since 1990. The PCC received extensive criticism for its lack of action in the News International phone hacking scandal, including from MPs and Prime Minister David Cameron, who called for it to be replaced with a new system in July 2011.The Leveson Inquiry was set up and reported in November 2012.

What are the issues associated with regulation; consumer choice, freedom of information and censorship?

I     If we didn't have any laws and regulation in place then people who are younger would be showed violence and bad language ect. That is why the age rating is in place if we didn't have this then anyone could see any rated film. My opinion is that the rating

Understanding the ethical and legal considerations when working in the creative media sector

Understanding the ethical and legal considerations when working in the creative media sector

Laws

Laws are written approved and enforced by a particular government.

Ethics

Ethics are rules of conducts, responsibility. if you break an ethical code yo may be forced to act with ethical disapproval from your peers or professional body.

Privacy law

privacy law is a regulation that protects a person right to be left alone

people are allowed to lead there life without being in the public eye

libel law

Libel law is to print something which is not true or may harm that person reputation and may bring hate or scam towards them.

It must be a statement which claims to be fact and its not clearly identified as an opinion.
for an example a magazine can not right anything they want, they have to make it look and sound like a fact not an opinion. for another example the righter of the magazine article can not express her/his own feelings as this is an opinion not a fact.

Intellectual property

Intellectual property is something that is unique to you if physically created i.e. an idea is not your intellectual property but the words you write are.

copyright is a type of intellectual law that protects your work

By knowing you rights and having the right type of protection you can stop people steeling or copying
  • the name of the product or brand
  • your inventions
  • the design or look of the product
  • things you write, make or produce

Adams Assignment. Media Sectors

Film

Were to start with film, we have all grow up around films those Disney classics that we still love to watch at any age, the horror films what scare the life out of use but we still watch them, the love story what we all wish for, but were did film come from well film’s started being made in 1890s but these were short film what lasted about 2 to 3 minutes not the full length films that we know today. The first film to have speech in was The Jazz Singer in October 1927 any film before that was classed as a silent film but it had music instead of speech. The first film to be made in color was Cupid Angling in 1918 but the most popular one is the famous Wizard of Oz. The film industry or motion picture industry is involved in the creation and distribution of films as a product. This industry is a worldwide phenomenon, but some countries have a greater role in production than others such as the US and the UK. The film industry generally employs a wide number of people because of the production and distribution process. Also many film company have other company what they have bought for an example Disney bought Marvel in 2009.

This image shows the cycle of a film. It starts off with an idea, were the director and producers sit down and try and think of an idea they could turn into a film. Then after that there is the development that means pitching the final idea and doing the final draft. After this there is packaging witch is were you find the cast and hire the crew, also doing the production schedule. The next step is financing this is finding the market for your film and then seeing if you get the green light to go ahead with production. The next step is pre-production this means casting and story boarding this is were you start to see the film come to life. Now for the main part.  production, this means shooting, lighting, camera and action. Then there is the part were you see the film starting to make sense and in order the way it is spouse to be. This is Post-production. The 8th step is sales & marketing this is were the cast and the director do interviews or photo shoots for magazines. The 9th step is the exhibition this is the premiere and the box office performance this is were you see if your film is as popular as you want it or if its just a bust. After all this there is other windows this is DVDs and Blu-ray. Also the profit if there is any made.

Spell and grammar check

Spell and grammar check

Week 1

This week I am going to look at other animations so I have an idea of what I want to do for mine.
Time lapse

I am going to start by looking at time lapse
Time lapse is my favourite animation. I tried to do one last year but it didn't really work because I didn't fully understand how it worked. I want to try it again but this time have camera set up on a road and do a time lapse of the traffic. For an example this video of New York.

Model Based

I would like to do something with models but not clay as I don't like it much. I would rather make I with models for an example toys, I want to do something with Iron Man or The Big Bang Theory.
For an example this video is of toy cars doing a car chase scene.

 Pixilation

With pixilation I want to do a video about a love and hate relationship. For an example boyfriend and girlfriend that fight but at the end of the day can still love each other.

Week 2 (My ideas)

My time lapse ideas

One of my ideas is to put a go pro into my mam's partners recovery van, when he is on call and have it there all day because he is always out on call and he can go anywhere within the UK. After filming the things I need I will speed the video up and add audio.

Another ideas is to go up to Roseberry Topping and set up a camera from the top and have it recording from day to sun set.

Another idea was to be filming the traffic on the A19 for a few hours then after speed the clips up and add sound.
My model based ideas

One of my ideas are to buy some big bang theory Lego for an example a Sheldon, Leonard and do a mini sketch show. For an example a silly little argument like they always do.

Week 3

I have chosen my idea and am going to use my A19 idea. I am currently in the process of drawing up my mood board. When I have completed my mood board I will take a photo with my phone and upload it here.

Week 4

I am thinking of changing my idea as it is not channelling and it won't be that enjoyable to watch. I might changing it to a car journey or a walk to Preston Park or to Acklam. The reason I am doing this is because I want to challenge myself. I will film it with a go pro then speed it up in the editing part and add music into it.

Week 5

I am going to Scarborough on 26th March so am going to record my journey back. I am going to use my phone to record my time laps because my phone is an IPhone 5s so it has time lapse Built into it so I won’t have to do that much editing.

Week 6

Here are two photos showing how and where I filmed my time lapse.
I have included some music to my animation. I have picked to use David Guetta and Sia titanium karaoke   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKHBCNNrv5M.

Here is my time lapse I have uploaded it to YouTube.

Here is the original sentence.

I have improved the sentence by taking some word out

What is an open question?
Open-ended questions are ones that require more than one word answers. The answers could come in the form of a list, a few sentences or something longer such as a speech, paragraph or essay.

example What did you do over the summer? Why do you like football?

What is an closed question If you can answer a question with only a "yes" or "no" response, then you are answering a close-ended type of question.

example
can I use the toilet?
do you like football?

  1. Do you use game consoles? Yes
  2. Do you like Xbox or Play station? I like both
  3. Give a reason for question 2 They both have good games out for them
  4. witch one is better Xbox 360 or PS3?  Sbox
  5. give a reason for you answer to question 4  The controller is better to use
  6. witch one is better Xbox one or PS4  Xbox one
  7. give a reason for answer to question 6  You can watch TV whilst playing games on it
  8. what is you favorite game and why?  I like Skyrim because of all of the quests you can do and how big the map is.
